Dial Up Frequently Asked Questions

How fast are TXOL connections?

Our link to the Internet is a 45mb ATM connection, and we can accommodate most all callers, and telco's, with our V92 56k auto sensing technology. Generally you can get the best Internet access using this technology due to the fact that it senses your equipment, and phone line quality, and connects you using the best case scenario considering those factors. If you do happen to connect slow, please call us for another possible access number for your area. Some access numbers actually will treat your connection to us like a long distance call, and in most cases, will improve your connection speed due to improved line quality on the long distance style circuit.

How many hours do I get per month?
Your online time depends on the package of service you purchase. We have many options to fit your needs as well as your budget. Click for internet packages.

What software do I need?
You will need some type of PPP software. If you have Windows 95 or 98, the necessary software is included on your system. Go to Tech-Center for help with setting up Dial-Up Networking.

Will I get a lot of busy signals?
Usually never. Naturally it depends on the time of day you call. If you call during peak hours, you may occasionally encounter a busy signal. We strive to maintain a low user-to-modem ratio of less than 8 users per each access line we have.

Since we have one line for every six-to-eight users, it is not very often you would get a busy signal. If you do get repeated busy signals, we encourage you to call in and report it, and we will take quick steps to isolate and eliminate the problem. That might mean we have to add more lines, or it could mean we, or the phone company, have faulty equipment somewhere. Either way, we want to know about it!

Ok then, what are the peak hours?
Our peak usage hours are 8:00pm to 11:00pm. These are the times you may possibly encounter busy signals.

My mailbox is "stuck." What can I do?
If you try to get your email, and it appears as though your email program is stuck, and not sending or receiving your e-mail, first you should leave the program running and wait awhile. Someone may have sent you a program, or pictures, that may be large in size. If you get error messages or you suspect that your mailbox is truly stuck, please call Technical Support to have the problem corrected.
